You are probably running into Assault Dropships with speed modules on it. That is how I run my ship. I may get hit by one volley of rockets, but I will NOT get hit by a second in a row if I am doing it right. If you are going against ANY non Assault dropship, you should easily land at least two series of rockets on it.
Rockets are not ineffective; you MUST be working with a team if you want to take out a decently fitted dropship. About 3-4 of your buddies will put some fear into the heart of a DS pilot. One Swarm Missile operator is just not much of a threat. Often, I just hover, hit my hardeners and have my turreteer woop said ass of the AV user.
TEAMWORK. It is key. That is how I lose my Dropships now... when it isn't an RDV spawning with suicidal speed, or damn floating tiles. |

Also, prototype missiles will hurt a Dropship with a vengeance when they connect. You just have to know when to let them fly at us. |

You are wrong Niccolo. Dead wrong. Unless you are flying at the ceiling, you WILL get hit with swarms. In Militia Ships, unless you have the speed boost, you WILL get hit by them. Please, play the game more, fly more, and see before you make such misleading statements. |

( i emptied my clip.. ) he wasnt even hiding or going out of range.. just smashin
He was out of range, and you were probably using militia rockets. Higher tiers go farther, and hit with more rockets per shot. |

I'm between semesters and I get paid by my scholarship to go to school, so I don't have a job. I've been playing about 12 hours a day this week, I'm not making crap up. Swarms do jack, maybe protos do something but reg or militias do nothing. I've never lost a dropship except to av nades when I crashed while learning how to fly.
AV nades? Are you serious? I've NEVER lost one to 'nades. If you are being effective whatsoever in a dropship, you will get hit by rockets. They won't seriously hurt me unless a whole squad lobs them at me, but they will hit me and force me to consider new ways of engaging. |

Kudos to your setup.. Not hatin.. But I guess i must dispell this "teamwork" theory once again... What team has 2 or more fully maxed out swarms? Possibly your corp stacks them, but corp matches are maybe 1% of total games played.. What team has 2 or more swarms with mics to work together? What team has 2 or more swarms that have mics and then 'care' to work together.. the simple answer is NONE>. 0 zip .. nada.. Its a lone wolf operation.. And after speccing FULLY 6.5 million sp's into swarms ONLY .. I expect to get solo kills.. or its not worth playing
There is no "teamwork" theory to dispel. Operations that are coordinated are out there, if you look for them. You have that option of running "lone wolf" but that should not mean you should be able to stomp the mess out of a coordinated group. Your comment that there are no groups that run coordinated anti-vehicle... are you an idiot? Many of the toughest corporations will run with full squads, and at least 2-3 of those folks have sturdy AV ability, or a heavy hitting tank to try to take out a dropship. Your point is made from the perspective of someone who doesn't really play often enough to understand the Swarm Launcher/Dropship dynamic.
As a Dropship pilot, one of the most common AV weapons used against me are the rockets. A poorly built dropship and non-reflexive pilot will get owned by them. Period. In an Assault with a pilot who knows better, I still get hit by them, but because I have passive and active damage resistance mods, and a speed booster, I can evade. You have forced me to lose effectiveness for a time. Something that Swarmers miss is that while they are shooting at us, they are keeping us at range. We lose effectiveness dodging your rockets. I can do passes and drop missiles down, but if I stop, I am going to get reamed. Prototype rockets still hit pretty damn hard, alpha'ing my shield and digging into my armor in one hit. Should I get nerfed to hell so I can't respond? I don't think so. A skilled pilot should be a pain in the ass to take down.
There are so many problems with the Dropship, but I make it work. Setting them back further to appease the "lone wolf" anti-social mercenary would only further disenfranchise the role more.
And that is MY point. |

They still go down like paper to well-fitted Swarms. |
